Confidentiality is at the heart of my work. This policy explains what personal information I collect through this website and when you contact me, why I collect it, how long I keep it and what rights you have. It is written to meet the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
I am Dr Adam Kincel, a UKCP accredited psychotherapist and supervisor. For the purposes of data protection law I am the data controller for the personal information described here. I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), registration number ZB817050.
You can contact me about anything in this policy:
When you visit this website. The website has no contact forms, user accounts or comments, so it does not ask you for any personal information. Like all websites, the server that hosts it automatically records technical information about each visit (your IP address, browser type and the pages requested). My hosting provider uses these logs to keep the website secure and running. I do not use them to identify visitors.
When you contact me. If you email, phone or message me, I will receive your name, your contact details and whatever you choose to tell me. This may include information about your health, your relationships, your sexuality or your background. Data protection law treats this as “special category” information, and I handle it with particular care.
If we work together. If you become a client or supervisee, I keep session records and related information. How I hold these records, and for how long, is set out in the agreement you receive before we start working together.
I never sell your information or use it for marketing.
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device. When you first visit, a banner asks which cookies you are happy to accept. Nothing other than the essential cookie below is set until you choose.
Essential cookie (always on)
Analytics cookies (only if you accept them)
If you accept analytics cookies, the website loads Google Analytics, which helps me understand how many people visit, which pages they read and how they found the site. Google Analytics sets these cookies:
Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, the type of device and browser you use and your approximate location (town or country, not your exact address). It does not tell me who you are. Google may process this information in the United States, under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The legal basis is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time. You can read how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Performance and advertising cookies
The banner also lists performance and advertising cookies. At present this website does not use any performance or advertising tools, so none of these cookies are set whatever you choose. If I add such tools in future, they will only run after you accept them, and I will update this policy first.
You can change your choices at any time with the round cookie button in the bottom-left corner of every page, and you can delete cookies in your browser settings.
I share your information only when necessary, and only with:
Where information is stored outside the UK, it is protected by UK adequacy regulations or equivalent legal safeguards.
This website links to my Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn pages and to other websites. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which I do not control.
I keep personal information on password-protected, encrypted devices and accounts, and share it only as described above. This website has no database or login area, which keeps the risk of a data breach through the website low.
You have the right to:
To use any of these rights, please contact me. I will respond within one month and there is no charge.
If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, please talk to me first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.
I will update this page if the way I use personal information changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
